Quebradas Backcountry Byway

Enjoy a 24-mile drive along scenic colored cliffs, arroyos and rock formations. The NM Bureau of Land Management manages this backcountry byway –which includes travel atop a portion of the historic El Camino Real –. It provides a great opportunity to see the protected wildlife of two separate reserves. Two access routes exist: 1) From I-25, take exit 152 and head east, and then north. Turn east again past Escondida Lake, and continue to Pueblito. Turn south and travel for ½ mile, then turn east. Stay on this road and follow Backcountry Byway signs; 2) From I-25, take exit 139 and travel 11 miles east on NM 380. Turn left on CR A-129 and continue driving north for three miles.
