Message from New Mexico Tech

Attention NMT and Socorro Community

In full compliance with the N.M. Department of Health’s Public Health Order released today, New Mexico Tech is restricting access to campus buildings, beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2020. Cabinet Secretary Kathyleen Kunkel declared a Public Health Emergency, closing all non-essential businesses and restricting mass gatherings.

All employees who are capable of working from home are instructed to work from home and stay at home. Employees whose job functions are deemed essential under the Public Health Order and by guidance from the Executive Office to NMT’s President will be exempted from this order on a departmental basis or on a case-by-case basis. Furthermore, anyone who needs to do business on campus is urged to do so via email or phone. Please do not drop by any staff offices to conduct business that can be handled remotely.

All buildings will be locked and occupancy will be limited to five people, excluding campus housing. This five-person limitation is a direct result of the Public Health Order of March 23, 2020. All buildings will be closed to the general public. The Fidel Center will be open for students who have meal plans to get grab-and-go lunches and dinners – and to retrieve mail.

Students who want to retrieve their belongings from the dormitories will be allowed on campus three at a time, for 30 minutes each. Those students can call Residential Life at 835-5900 to set an appointment to get into the dorms. No students from out of state will be allowed back on campus at this time.

New Mexico Tech is committed to ensuring the health and safety of everyone within the campus community and the greater Socorro community. To that end, NMT strongly urges everyone to abide by these new rules and stay home as much as possible.

NMT plans to re-start the spring semester on Monday, April 6, with online delivery of classes for both undergraduate and graduate students. At this time, finals week remains as scheduled. There will be a 2020 Commencement, however, details on when and how will be provided later.
