Announcements and Key Topics

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in cooperation with the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED), will hold a community meeting for the Eagle Picher Carefree Battery Superfund Site. The meeting will be held:

Thursday, August 8, 2019
6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Socorro City Hall
111 School of Mines Road
Socorro, New Mexico

In the first part of the meeting, NMED will present results of groundwater samples collected in early 2019.

We will also discuss EPA’s on-going optimization study, status of future site activities, and the decision to re-address the groundwater and soil gas contamination as a whole. EPA’s optimization study has the potential to pilot a remedy that could address soil gas, vapor intrusion and groundwater contamination all together.

You will have an opportunity to talk directly with agency representatives in an informal setting.

We welcome your participation!

If you have any technical questions about the site, please contact Nichole Foster, the EPA Remedial Project Manager, at 214.665.7248.

This meeting is being held in a fully accessible facility. Should you have any specific needs or questions about the facility, please contact Jason T. McKinney, EPA Community Involvement Coordinator, at 214.665.8132 or 800.533.3508 (toll-free).
